The Northwest Vietnam is in the most beautiful season of the year with terraced fields stretching with green & yellow color. Where the new scent of rice making visitors feel uneasy.
The two most beautiful seasons in the Northwest of Vietnam are spring with peach and Ban flowers blooming. Especially autumn with terraced fields dyed yellow in the color of ripe rice.
The most suitable time to “hunt” the Northwest Golden season is from early September to late October. The famous places tourists should visit Mu Cang Chai, Sa Pa, Y Ty and Hoang Su Phi.
Mu Cang Chai 10/9 – 5/10
Mu Cang Chai is a highland district of Yen Bai province, about 280 km from Hanoi. To come here, visitors will go through Khau Pha pass, one of the most beautiful passes in Vietnam.
Mu Cang Chai is famous for its terraced fields spread across the mountain slopes. Three communes La Pan Tan, Che Cu Nha and De Xu Phinh are the places to see the golden rice that are most visited by tourists.
In fact, Mu Cang Chai has 2 rice crops in a year: spring crop (April – May) and main crop (September – October). In the spring crop, people focus on planting rice in low fields. Because there is not enough water for irrigation on high hills. Only the main crop, new rice is planted a lot. Around September – October the rice fields begin to ripen. The interesting thing about Mu Cang Chai is that the people here still keep their beliefs and traditional farming methods.
Sapa 25/8 -> 15/9
The terraced fields in Sapa voted by the famous American travel magazine, Travel and Leisure, as one of the seven most beautiful terraced fields in Asia and the World.
Along Muong Hoa valley, Cat Cat, Thanh Kim, Thanh Phu, Ta Van, Lao Chai, Ta Phin… are picturesque terraced fields. From Hanoi, visitors can take a bus or train, the travel time is about 5-8 hours.
The weather in Sapa this season is also very pleasant, visitors can feel a little chilly in the early morning, warm in the afternoon and gradually cold in the evening.
In addition to the golden rice fields, visitors can also visit many other famous landmarks such as Fansipan peak, stone church, Cau May ancient town, Love waterfall…
Y Ty 1/9 – 20/9
Y Ty belongs to Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province. The road to Y Ty is also more difficult than Sa Pa & Mu Cang Chai. The famous spots to see ripe rice here are Den Sang, Den Thang, A Lu, Lao Chai, Chu Lin area, Thien Sinh valley…
Located at an altitude of nearly 2,000 m above sea level. It’s covered with white fog all year round. But every season when the rice is ripe, the whole region is suddenly awakened by the golden color of the terraced fields.
The terraced fields in Y Ty are as beautiful as the waves, flowing from the top of the mountain, spilling down all the valleys. Occasionally, visitors can see clouds drifting right next to the field. Like many other regions in the Northwest, the scenery in Y Ty still remains wild with wooden houses nestled on the hillside.
Hoang Su Phi 20/9 – 20/10
Hoang Su Phi, Ha Giang is always a favorite destination of backpackers. The two most beautiful seasons here are the pouring water season (March – May) and the ripe rice season (September – October).
The unique feature of Hoang Su Phi in the ripe rice season is the stacked terraced fields. Standing on the top of Tay Con Linh mountain, looking at Cao Son valley, you will see all the majestic beauty of the Northwest mountains. Beside to the golden rice fields for harvest, coming to Ha Giang this season, visitors also do not forget to visit Dong Van karts plateau, Meo Vac market…
