According to the director of the museum, “Just 365 steps to walk around the Museum of History, visitors can travel thousands of years of history and culture of Vietnam, learn about cultural features of the region. Southern lands through a system of permanent and special specialized galleries. The selected collection from more than 43,000 documents and artefacts of the Museum, including 11 national treasures presented in the galleries, will be invaluable historical and cultural knowledge gifts.

Part 1 of Vietnam History Museum in Sai Gon:
includes 15 galleries, introducing artefacts and antiques related to Vietnamese history from the time of human traces (about 300,000 years ago) to 1930 including the periods:
- The Primitive period in Vietnam
- During the period of Hung Vuong building the country
- The struggle for national independence (1st – 10th century)
- Ly Dynasty (11th – 13th centuries)
- Tran dynasty (13th – 14th century)
- Le Dynasty (15th – 17th century)
- Tay Son period (18th – early 19th century)
- Nguyen Dynasty (19th – mid 20th century).
Part 2 Vietnam History Museum in Ho Chi Minh City:
Introduce some typical topics of the South such as Oc Eo culture, ancient culture of the Mekong River Delta, Champa art, Ben Nghe – Saigon, ethnic groups Vietnam … and culture of some Asian countries.
