1. Where is Tran Yen?

Tran Yen is a district of Yen Bai province, located in the Northwest region of Vietnam. About 15 km from Yen Bai city and about 165 km northwest of Hanoi capital. With geographical location:

  • The North borders Yen Binh district.
  • The South borders Van Chan district.
  • The West borders Van Yen district.
  • The East borders Yen Bai city and Ha Hoa district of Phu Tho province.

2. How is Tran Yen unique?

With an area of more than 900km² and a population of about 73,000 people, Tran Yen is considered one of the lands with an economy mainly based on agriculture. With many historical landmarks and beautiful natural landscapes, Tran Yen has become an attractive destination for tourists when traveling to Yen Bai.

Tran Yen is a transition area in terrain from the midlands to the mountains, in the Northeast is the mountain river of the Pung Luong range, the Red River valley runs in the middle cutting the district into two uneven parts, slightly skewed towards Con Mountain.

The average altitude of the whole district is 100m, the lowest place has an altitude of 20m. The terrain gradually increases from Southeast to Northwest. Most southern communes have hilly terrain, flat tops, and gentle slopes. The communes located at the foot of Con Voi Mountain, Pung Luong, have complex terrain, steep slopes, and strong fragmentation.

Tran Yen is located in the center of Northwest Vietnam, with a temperate climate, cold winters and cool summers. Tran Yen has many winding streams and rivers, creating waterfalls and beautiful landscapes. In particular, Tran Yen is also covered with immense green pine forests, creating a poetic and romantic natural scene.

  • September – October: This is the time when Tran Yen attracts a large number of tourists to visit, this is the season of ripe rice with “brilliant yellow color”. 4. How to get to Tran Yen?

4.1 From Hanoi to Yen Bai city

According to the experience of many people, traveling by motorbike is the most popular means of transport for many tourists to conquer the road, freely admire the scenery, and record wonderful moments.

However, with a long distance of about 200 km, this is a real challenge for you. You need to prepare good health for the trip. Therefore, to have the most convenient trip, tourists should run in large groups, because the mountainous and forested Yen Bai road has few houses, on both sides there will be mostly forests and valleys.

If traveling in a group, when you are tired you can change the steering wheel to rest to ensure the safety of your trip. When traveling by motorbike, you need to comply with traffic safety laws, stay in the right lane without crowding, and bring all personal documents such as a citizen identification card, driver’s license, insurance… to have a trip. There are many different buses in a day, you can go to My Dinh bus station in Hanoi to catch a bus. Service quality is also very good, the buses will stop at the end point, Yen Bai Bus Station.

4.2 From Yen Bai city to Tran Yen

From the city center, you follow Highway 37 about 2 km southwest, then meet the roundabout at intersection 5, then turn right onto Le Hong Phong street. Continue moving along Le Hong Phong street for about 3 km, then come to a roundabout and turn right onto Nguyen Phuc street. Continue along Nguyen Phuc street and then provincial road TL163 for about 10 more kilometers to reach the center of Co Phuc town in Tran Yen district.

5. Sightseeings in Tran Yen

5.1 Van Hoi Lake

Van Hoi Lake is located at the western gateway of Yen Bai province, about 40 km from Yen Bai city center. This is a famous tourist destination of Yen Bai, with beautiful landscapes, clear lakes, cool and fresh air. There are still more than 20 extremely diverse islands, large and small, suitable for vacation trips for travelers who love to explore.

5.2 Dam Hau Lake

Dam Hau Lake, also known as 99 Niches Lake, is located less than 1km from Highway 32. And about 40 km south of Yen Bai city. Located in Minh Quan commune, Tran Yen district. Dam Hau Lake is an ideal destination for those who want to seek the experience of exploring nature. Also enjoy fresh air and specialities of local cuisine.

5.3 Au Co Mother Temple

As an interesting and extremely famous spiritual tourist destination in Tran Yen. Mau Au Co Temple is a long-standing historical and cultural relic site. This is a cultural destination and a historical architectural work of great value compared to today’s ancient temples and pagodas.

The temple is located in a rectangular campus 20m long and up to 150m wide with many high walls surrounding all four sides. On August 3, 1991, Au Co Mau Temple was recognized by our country’s Ministry of Culture and Information as a National Monument.

5.4 Ao Gioi – Suoi Tien

Located about 8 km from Au Co Mau Temple is a wild and majestic Ao Gioi – Suoi Tien. It’s located on the territory of Na mountain, Quan Khe commune, Ha Hoa district. Both sides of this place are surrounded by many diverse large and small mountains.

To get here, visitors can take 2 routes to Ao Gioi, Gieng But, Vuc Xanh, Tien Cave, Bottomless Cave, Ban Co Waterfall,… Because of possessing those interesting natural landmarks. Ao Gioi – Suoi Tien is considered a tourist attraction with extremely rich potential.

6. Specialties when traveling to Tran Yen

  • Corn wine: Tran Yen corn wine is produced from special types of corn, through special fermentation and distillation processes. Wine has a unique, delicious and extremely strong flavor.
  • H’Mong beef: H’Mong beef in Tran Yen is of high quality, especially black beef, with a characteristic aroma, chewy, sweet and greasy meat.
  • Sticky rice wine: Tran Yen sticky wine is made from sticky rice and yeast, has a unique, delicious and extremely strong flavor.
  • Tran Yen Day Cake: Tran Yen Day Cake is made from sticky rice and corn, has a unique flavor, is soft and flexible. Cakes are often used at parties or as gifts.
