Located on the majestic Truong Son mountain range, Tay Giang is considered the “Northwest version” of Central Vietnam. 1. Where is Tay Giang?

Tay Giang is a mountainous district of Quang Nam Province, Vietnam. About 125 km west of Hoi An city, about 112 km southwest of Da Nang city and about 170 km northwest of Tam Ky city. With geographical location:

  • The East borders Dong Giang district.
  • The West borders Laos with a border of about 70 km long.
  • The South borders Nam Giang district.
  • The North borders A Luoi district and Nam Dong district of Thua Thien Hue Province.

2. How is Tay Giang unique?

Located on Truong Son peak covered with clouds all year round, Tay Giang is an extremely hot “cloud hunting” spot for tourists passionate about exploring Central Vietnam.

The area of ​​Tay Giang is more than 900km2 but the population is quite sparse.

Tay Giang is blessed with green primeval forests. Not only that, the Co Tu ethnic people here still preserve many sharp cultural specialties with customs, traditions, costumes, festivals,… imbued with national identity.

3. When is the best time to visit Tay Giang?

Because it is a mountainous district, Tay Giang’s climate is very cool. This is the ideal destination for you in the summer to avoid the heat of the Central region. Due to the high mountainous terrain, the temperature in Tay Giang this season will also be about 8 – 10 degrees Celsius lower than in the plains.

In addition, from October to February next year is considered the most ideal time for a successful journey to “hunt clouds” in Tay Giang at Dinh Que. Coming to Tay Giang at this time, you will feel the cold weather and the beautiful sea of ​​white clouds, like a relaxing scene on earth.

4. How to get to Tay Giang from Da Nang city?

Tay Giang is nearly 120 km from Da Nang city and about 170 km from Tam Ky city (Quang Nam). Tourists from Hoi An or Da Nang who want to visit Tay Giang can choose to take a bus or motorbike. Specifically:

  • Passenger bus: From Da Nang or Tam Ky city, there are some bus trips to Tay Giang – Quang Nam. When you arrive at the stop, you can rent a car to take you there;
  • Motorbike: Follow international road 14G (old name: DT604) to. It’s best if you choose to travel to Tay Giang by motorbike, you should go in a large group to support each other when needed. The driver needs to have steady steering and be really calm because the road is quite foggy.

5. Activities and experiences in Tay Giang

5.1 Visiting Ta Vang village when traveling to Tay Giang

Ta Vang village, A Tieng commune, Tay Giang district is located about 700m southwest of the center of A Tieng commune. This place is considered a street corner in the middle of the forest because it has a quite spacious road system and convenient travel. This is the coordinates chosen by many tourists when they want to explore the life of villages along Ho Chi Minh Road.

5.2 Visiting Co Tu Tay Giang traditional village

In 2006, the traditional house conservation area of ​​the Co Tu ethnic group was built on a 2-hectare land. The traditional house area includes 10 stilt houses in 10 communes in Tay Giang district. Each commune is a house with its own nuances with the meaning of maintaining and preserving stilt houses and educating children and grandchildren about the traditional culture of the Co Tu community.

In addition, in the village there is also a longhouse, a Guol and a tomb of the Co Tu people, helping tourists from everywhere better understand the culture of the indigenous people.

 5.3 Visiting Por’ning village in Tay Giang

Por’ning village is known to many tourists because it is considered the cradle that preserves the unique culture of the Co Tu people in western Quang Nam. 5.4 Conquering Que peak when traveling to Tay Giang

5.5 Exploring Chuôr terraced fields in Tay Giang

Chuôr terraced fields have existed for hundreds of years, creating a beautiful landscape picture for the Tay Giang mountainous region of Quang Nam. 5.6 Visiting Axòo Tunnels in Tay Giang

Axòo Tunnel was built in a Z shape, more than 70 km long, zigzag deep inside the mountain. This is where 12km of the legendary Truong Son road remains with the shadow of forest trees obscuring the entrance to the tunnels. Visiting here, visitors will be able to visit the tunnels and understand more about the heroic achievements of their ancestors during the years of fighting against the Americans to save the country.

5.7 Checking-in to R’Cung waterfall when traveling to Tay Giang

5.9 Visiting Tay Giang Pomu primeval forest

After checking in to Hoi An for life with “super quality” photos, you should go on a backpacking trip to Tay Giang, Quang Nam and visit the Pomu primeval forest (about 10 km from Que peak). Conquering Pomu heritage forest is an attractive challenge for all tourists.
