Suoi Thau Steppe

Ha Giang – a beautiful land in Vietnam’s tourist map. When traveling here, tourists often immediately think of choosing to go to Dong Van. Because of the sovereignty flagpole Lung Cu, the northernmost landmark of Vietnam, to Meo Vac with the romantic Nho Que river or the fairs with Many colors of highland ethnic people along with unique cuisine,…

But few people know that in the west of Ha Giang province there are many unique destinations. Among them, the most poetic is Suoi Thau steppe – a prominent green steppe with grass hills, flower hills, rice fields, corn fields and lonely old pine trees located throughout the green steppe. Let’s admire this beautiful steppe with Origin Vietnam.

1. Where is Suoi Thau Steppe?

Suoi Thau steppe is located in Nan Ma commune, Xin Man district, Ha Giang province, Vietnam. Belonging to the Bac Ha plateau area, connecting Xin Man district of Ha Giang province with Bac Ha district of Lao Cai province. 6 km from Coc Pai town, about 150 km southwest of Ha Giang city and about 325 km northwest of Hanoi capital.

2. How is Suoi Thau Steppe unique?

Suoi Thau steppe in Ha Giang with its dreamy but majestic scenery, is considered by tourists to be a destination as beautiful as the European sky or “a miniature Switzerland in the heart of Ha Giang”.

Covering an area of more than 90 square meters and located at an altitude of over 1,200 m above sea level. Suoi Thau has a wild, rustic beauty but no less majestic. The beauty of Suoi Thau flower steppe is its poetic, large area and fresh space.

With a cool atmosphere all year round and spacious space. You can visit Suoi Thau steppe at any time of the year. You can refer to some timelines as follows:

In spring, mustard flowers bloom. In summer, the green color of corn fields and rice fields makes visitors feel extremely cool. Autumn is a time of intersection: the rice ripens and the first buckwheat of the season blooms, creating a gentle, poetic feeling. In the east, visitors can see buckwheat fields interspersed with tall rows of sandalwood rising in the middle of the vast steppe.

  • However, the most ideal time to explore the Suoi Thau steppe area is from September to October every year. Because at this time, there are both flower-covered hills and golden rice fields, so it’s very beautiful and the weather is much cooler.
  • From October to November, the rice fields no longer exist, but there are areas of buckwheat flowers and some other flowers.
  • From the beginning of November, the weather gradually turns to winter, the climate becomes colder in the morning and afternoon, and the valley gradually has a sea of clouds for you to see.

The most peaceful scene on the steppe is in the morning, the afternoon is a bit sultry, and the sunset in the afternoon can be said to be the most poetic beauty. If you have a longer experience, you should choose a morning and afternoon experience on the prairie.

If you can spend a lot of time here, camping and making fires to stay overnight here is also an interesting experience trip in Ha Giang. You will have the opportunity to see the stars at night on the vast steppe.

Because the road is still continuing to be repaired and upgraded (in the sun, dust and shock, marbles). Rain makes it more muddy, many landslides have to wait to pass). It still takes a long time to complete. Therefore, when arranging a tour to Suoi Thau steppe, you should consider carefully. It’s not as easy to go as Dong Van or Meo Vac.

Especially carefully check the wheels and brakes in advance to be able to move safely and quickly.
  • Follow google maps, but when you arrive, pay attention to the small dirt road (on the left) with a wooden gate.
  • You should choose a 3-day, 2-night itinerary to explore the west of Ha Giang, which is the most reasonable: you can go to Chieu Lau Thi, Hoang Su Phi, Ban Phung,…
  • This is a region with cold weather all year round. So you need to prepare warm clothes during the days you travel here.
  • There are currently a few homestays on the steppe that are preparing to go into operation (around June 2024) for you to conveniently experience day and night on the steppe.
