Mu La

1. Where is Mu La?

Mu La is located in Lung Phac village, Co Linh commune, west of Pac Nam district, Bac Kan province. About 90 km northwest of Bac Kan city center and about 252 km north of Hanoi capital.

2. How is Mu La unique?

Mu La is the highest place in Lung Phac village, Co Linh commune, blessed with impressive beauty by nature. Along with that, Mu La also preserves many typical cultural features of the Mong people in Pac Nam district. So when you come here to travel, you will have the opportunity to learn about the cultural imprints of the indigenous people.

3. When is the best time to travel to Mu La?

Four seasons, every season in Mu La is very fresh, cool and has its own unique appeal. Therefore, you can choose to travel to Bac Kan at any time of the year. The most ideal time is from September to April of the following year, because this is the time when this land has the most wonderful natural scenery.

During this period, the weather is neither too hot nor too cold, the air is extremely pleasant and fresh.

  • In September-October: This is the season of ripe rice, the whole space seems to be bright with shiny yellow color stretching across the terraced fields.
  • In November-December: This season is also winter, traveling here, you also have the opportunity to hunt clouds. Immerse yourself in the majestic scenery with a sea of floating clouds.
  • In January-February: All over the mountains and forests seem to be wearing a colorful “new shirt”. You have the opportunity to see the forests of peach, apricot, pear, etc., with countless flowers radiating fragrance and blooming.

4. How to get to Mu La?

4.1 From Hanoi to Bac Kan city

Bac Kan is 165 km from Hanoi. From Hanoi to Bac Kan there are two routes:

  • Route 1: Follows old National Highway 3 (takes about 3 hours to travel, can go by car and motorbike).
  • Route 2: Follow Hanoi – Thai Nguyen highway then continue on National Highway 3, about 2 hours (only by car).

Passenger buses depart from My Dinh station (Hanoi). You can choose bus companies running the Hanoi – Bac Kan or Cao Bang route. These vehicles often pass through most famous tourist destinations in Bac Kan.

4.2 From Bac Kan city to Mu La

Starting from Bac Kan city, you move along National Highway 3 north about 20 km, then reach Phu Thong intersection, Bach Thong district, then turn onto provincial road DT258. From here, you just move northwest about 35 km to Ba Be bus station in Cho Ra town, Ba Be district, then turn right onto National Highway 279. You continue to travel on Highway 279 in the Northwest direction for about 34 km to reach the Mu La area.

5. Activities and Experiences in Mu La

In the H’Mong language, Mu La means cool. Indeed, this land has low temperatures, around 20 degrees Celsius, so it is always very pleasant. The hot heat of the city is forced to recede to give way to the cool, calm atmosphere. On hot summer days, it’s great to be able to go to Mu La to breathe fresh air.

You will be embraced by a picture of peace and quiet. The green color of the mountains and hills and the fresh grass slopes seem to dispel all the sadness and pressure in life. In the June season, Mu La is filled with the colors of butterfly flowers, so beautiful and poetic that anyone who comes once will remember it fondly.
