Ma Da Valley – Tra Ang Cave is located deep in the heart of the World Natural Heritage – Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park. Located in Tan Trach commune, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province, Vietnam. About 60 km west of Dong Hoi city and about 502 km south of Hanoi capital.

  • Dry season: lasts from April to August with an average temperature of about 25 degrees Celsius. The hottest months are June, July and August.
  • Rainy season: lasts from September to March of the following year. The rainiest time is in September, October and November. This is also the flood season with rising river and lake water levels. It causes many dangers for people and tourists.

4.1 Moving to Dong Hoi city – Quang Binh

To move to Ma Da valley – Tra Ang in Phong Nha – Ke Bang national park, you need to go to Dong Hoi city first and then from here continue to move to Phong Nha. Dong Hoi is a large city and the center of Quang Binh province, so you can choose many means of transportation to get here.

4.1.1 By Bus

As an important traffic hub on the North-South connecting route, you can easily book a bus to Dong Hoi. For tourists in Central or Northern Vietnam, the bus will be an extremely ideal choice to save money without spending too much time traveling. Travel time by bus from Saigon to Dong Hoi will take about 1 day (24 hours), so those in the South should consider using other means.

4.1.2 By train

Dong Hoi Station is located on the Thong Nhat railway line, so there are many trains running through here with many time frames for you to choose from. If you are in Hanoi, you can choose trains departing at night to arrive in Dong Hoi early in the morning to save time. Or you can choose a flight that departs at 6:00 a.m. (SE7) and arrives in Dong Hoi at 4:00 p.m., which fits the hotel check-in time.

For those of you in Saigon, you should choose trains that leave in the morning and arrive in Dong Hoi the next morning. If you have plenty of time, you can take the train for a very different travel experience.

4.1.3 By airplane

To serve the travel needs of people and the increasing number of tourists. Quang Binh province has built Dong Hoi airport with flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The flight time to Dong Hoi is only about 1 hour and 30 hours. So those in the South will not need to worry about having to spend too much time getting to Dong Hoi.

4.2 Traveling to Ma Da valley – Tra Ang cave from Dong Hoi city

Starting from Dong Hoi city, you follow Ly Thuong Kiet street, F325 street, Nguyen Binh street, Phan Dinh Phung street about 7 km west, then meet the intersection with National Highway 1A.

You go straight to enter Highway 16 (Ho Chi Minh Road) and continue moving about 33 km northwest when you come to a junction with Road D20. You turn left onto road D20 and move southwest about 13 km when you come to an intersection.

From here, you continue going straight to get onto provincial road DT562. You continue to follow road DT562 about 3 km southwest and then meet a fork with a sign leading to Tra Ang cave in Ma Da valley. You turn left and move about 500 meters to reach your destination.

5. Activities and experiences when exploring Ma Da valley – Tra Ang cave
