1. Where is Loc Binh?

Loc Binh is a mountainous district in Lang Son province, about 25 km southeast of Lang Son city and about 190 km northeast of Hanoi capital. About geographical location:

  • The East, it borders Chongta city in Guangxi province, China
  • The West, it borders Chi Lang district and Son Dong district, Bac Giang province
  • To the South, it borders Dinh Lap district and Luc Ngan district, Bac Giang province
  • The North borders Cao Loc district.

2. How is Loc Binh unique?

Regarding scenic spots, Loc Binh has 7 provincial-level relics and 1 national relic site. The most famous is the Mau Son mountain range with many famous products of the Dao ethnic people. 3. When is the best time to travel to Loc Binh?

Lang Son has a temperate monsoon climate, with an average annual temperature fluctuating around 21.5 degrees Celsius. The average annual rainfall fluctuates from 1200mm – 1600mm, and in winter there is snowfall. The climate in Lang Son is divided into 4 distinct seasons:

3.1. Spring (lasts from March to May)

Spring in Loc Binh is characterized by a sea of floating clouds. When standing on the top of Mau Son, you will admire the magical space. At this time, many mountainous areas in Loc Binh have wild peach blossoms blooming as if signaling a warm spring is coming. Spring in Lang Son attracts tourists with beautiful scenery, pleasant climate and is also the time of many special festivals.

3.2. Summer (from June to August)

In summer, the temperature in Loc Binh is quite high, ranging from 27 – 35 degrees Celsius, with peak months reaching 38 – 40 degrees Celsius. There are months of heavy rainfall, but the rains usually do not last long.

Note: Because Loc Binh has high mountainous terrain and many rivers and streams. Therefore, tourists need to consider when going to Loc Binh at this time. During the rainy season, landslides and floods can occur, making it dangerous for tourists.

3.3. Fall (from September to November)

This is the time when the persimmon season in Lang Son is ripe throughout the sky. This fruit is harvested around the end of September and early October. The climate is favorable, the scenery is beautiful and it coincides with the season of many suitable fruits. for a tour of Lang country.

3.4. Winter (December to February of the following year)

At this time, the temperature in Lang Son is low, sometimes snow falls 2-3 times a month. For tourists who want to see snowfall, winter is the ideal time. To admire the most beautiful snowfall, you should travel to Lang Son between mid-January and February. Mau Son Peak is the most popular destination for tourists in Lang Son, covered with clouds all year round.

4. How to get to Loc Binh?

4.1. By passenger cars

The most convenient is still the passenger bus, you can catch a bus at many bus stations in Hanoi such as Gia Lam bus station, Giap Bat bus station, My Dinh,… To travel to Lang Son, you will spend about 2.5 to 3 hours.

After arriving in Lang Son city, visitors can catch a taxi, take an intra-provincial bus or rent a motorbike to travel to Loc Binh. From Lang Son city, you just follow Highway 4B southeast about 25 km to Loc Binh town.

4.2. By train

Traveling by train has the advantage of shortening the distance to only 149 km and being able to admire beautiful scenery along the way.

If you want to have more time to explore the beautiful scenery of Lang Son, you can choose a train route that departs at night and arrives at Dong Dang station in the morning with a train travel time of about 4 hours and 15 minutes.

After arriving in Lang Son city, visitors can catch a taxi, take an intra-provincial bus or rent a motorbike to travel to Loc Binh. From Lang Son city, you just follow Highway 4B southeast about 25 km to Loc Binh town.

In case you have a visa and passport, you can take a train to China from Lang Son.

4.3. By motorcycles

Motorbikes are the vehicle of choice for many tourists. The advantage is that you can take the initiative in travel time, enjoy beautiful scenery along the way and are suitable for small groups of tourists. However, when traveling by motorbike, you need to be sure to clearly understand the route, ensure a safe speed, and bring all documents. Below is the route from Hanoi to Lang Son that you can refer to:

From Hanoi, go southwest to Ton Duc Thang street towards Cat Linh -> turn to Nguyen Luong Bang street -> Tran Khat Chan overpass -> turn right to Nguyen Khoai -> turn to Dam Quang Trung street -> at the roundabout You take the 2nd way onto Nguyen Van Linh Street/QL1A -> go straight towards Highway 279 about 29km -> turn onto Highway 1B to reach Lang Son province.

When arriving in Lang Son city, tourists follow Highway 4B in the Southeast direction about 25 km to reach Loc Binh town.

5. Sightseeing & things to do in Loc Binh

5.1. Mau Son ancient spiritual land

Mau Son ancient spiritual tourist area was classified as a National Monument in 2013. Located at an altitude of 1,190m above sea level, distributed on a steep mountainside in the Mau Son range.

Coming here, visitors will explore the mysterious primeval forest with hundreds of types of trees and colorful flowers. Vast green forests continue one after another.

5.2. Phat Chi Mountain Relics

Phat Chi mountain relic is among the three largest and highest mountains among the natural rock mountains in the southwest of Mau Son tourist area.

You can fully admire the beautiful nature when standing on Phat Chi peak on clear, blue days. You will see the magical and seductive beauty of the Mau Son tourist area along with small winding roads on the mountainside.

5.3. Ban Khieng Waterfall

Ban Khieng Waterfall is a tourist destination that you definitely should not miss. The waterfall originates from the Mau Son mountain range, so it possesses clear, cool water. Ban Khieng Waterfall is very suitable for cool bathing and fun activities, especially on summer days.

The waterfall flows gently, creating small, shallow pools and the water is so clear that you can see the pebbles below.

6. Specialties when traveling to Loc Binh

When traveling to Loc Binh, visitors will not only admire the magnificent natural scenery. But also have the opportunity to enjoy the specialties of this beautiful land.

6.1. Roast pig – roast duck

Roasted pig and duck with mac mat leaves are specialties bearing the mark of Lang Son. The taste of the dish, in addition to the delicious meat, also lies in the flavor of mac mol leaves. This is a tree that produces fragrant leaves and fruits with a strange flavor, often used in the dishes of the Tay and Nung ethnic groups.

After being soaked in spices, mac mat leaves are stuffed into the cleaned pork and duck belly, sewn closed, left to absorb the spices and roasted. Satisfactory roasted meat depends on the chef, while roasting and evenly spreading honey mixed with warm water on the pig. Honey not only helps keep pigs and ducks from cracking, but also gives the skin a shiny and crispy yellow color. The dish meets the requirements when the meat is not crumbly and is chewy and soft.

Local people mix their own yellow, cockroach-wing-colored dipping sauce for roast pigs and ducks. From roast duck, visitors to Lang Son can enjoy duck pho.

6.2. Sour Pho

Sour pho in Lang Son is usually served in a large plate, underneath is pho noodles, followed by char siu meat, cucumbers, roasted peanuts, fried sweet potatoes, and dried onions. It has enough sour, spicy, salty, and sweet flavors. The most important ingredient in the sauce is sugar vinegar, mixed with fried onions, garlic, fish sauce, and ginger.

Lang Son Sour Pho has a cooling nature, suitable for enjoying on hot days. But you can still eat sour pho in winter when the sauce and noodles are warmed up. Depending on your preference, when eating sour pho, you can add a few slices of fresh chili or squeeze a slice of lemon or sprinkle a little pepper for a light, not overpowering flavor.

6.3. Egg Rolls

Egg rolls are made from delicious rice and pureed with water so that the dough is not too dry or thin. The cake is covered in a steamer with a thin layer of cloth stretched so that the cake is completely cooked by rising hot steam.

Unlike regular Banh Cuon, Lang Son people use eggs to make the filling. In addition, authentic Banh Cuon must be eaten with a dipping sauce mixed with vinegar made from a type of ripe banana in Lang Son, a typical vinegar that only exists in Lang Son.

6.4. Khau Nhuc

The Tay and Nung ethnic people introduced Khau Nhuc, also known as Nam Khau, to Vietnam from China. This dish is commonly used during holidays, weddings, and elaborate preparations.

The main ingredients of the dish include pork belly, taro, and a mixture of spices including onions, garlic, ginger, minced basil, sugar, pepper, oyster sauce, five spice, a little white wine and leaves. Tau soi – a type of salty vegetable of the Tay and Nung people, chopped.

Through many stages such as boiling, roasting (frying) and then steaming. Khau Nhuc is eaten with rice, bread and vegetables for breakfast or main meal. The meat is tender, absorbing the taste of taro and spices, the skin is slightly sweet, the fat is greasy but does not feel greasy.

6.5 Wormwood Cake

Wormwood cake is made from young wormwood leaves, boiled with clean ash water until soft, then washed, removed fibers, and crushed in a mortar. Take the cooked food, pound it well with the previously crushed wormwood leaves until you get a smooth and flexible dough, then move on to making cakes. This cake is usually made with two types of filling: sesame paste with finely crushed sugar or black sesame paste.
