Hua Ma Cave is located south of Ba Be Lake in Quang Khe commune, Ba Be district, Bac Kan province, Vietnam. About 68 km northwest of Bac Kan city and about 220 km north of Hanoi capital.

2. How is Hua Ma cave unique?

Located within the grounds of Ba Be National Park, the cave is famous for its mysterious and somewhat wild beauty. With a location halfway up Co Don mountain and in the middle of Leo Pen pass, the cave is surrounded by dense and luxuriant mountain forests. Hua Ma Cave not only brings visitors impressive scenery, but also contains many mysterious stories that have existed for a long time.

Currently, the cave is located at an altitude of 350 m above sea level and has a length of about 700m. To get to the cave entrance, you need to move along the foot of Co Don Mountain and pass the steps built on a gentle slope.   • Therefore, September to November is the most ideal because of the beautiful weather and extremely attractive scenery.
  • From December, the weather is cold, February is the time to prepare for Tet and spring festivals. Specifically, on the 9th, 10th, 11th day of the first lunar month is the Ba Be Lake festival – Long Tong festival, a very big festival taking place in the Pac Ngoi village area.
  • In addition, when visiting this place, you should combine it with experiencing Ba Be Lake, going to the market, watching the ripe rice season and hunting clouds at Don Den.

Therefore, the ideal time to explore Hua Ma cave is during the dry season, from October to April of the following year.

4. How to get to Hua Ma cave?

4.1 From Hanoi to Bac Kan city

  • By private vehicles: For tourists who love the feeling of discovery and conquest, in the Bac Kan city area, you can choose a motorbike to travel to Hua Ma cave. On average, it takes about 3 – 4 hours and the route is not too difficult, but promises to bring you an unforgettable backpacking experience. However, you need to consider your health and driving ability because the distance is quite long.
  • By public transport: Currently, there are many bus routes from Hanoi to Bac Kan, helping visitors easily choose and have the most comfortable trip for themselves. You can choose car companies to go to Bac Kan city center or to Ba Be Lake National Park. Tourists in Hanoi go to My Dinh bus station, then buy tickets and get on the bus to go to Bac Kan.

4.2 From Bac Kan city to Ba Be National Park

Located within the Ba Be Lake & National Park tourist area, after arriving in Bac Kan city, visitors can choose a taxi or motorbike to visit. You just need to follow the road to Phu Thong town, then turn left towards TL258 and continue about 40 km to Ba Be Lake. Visitors just need to go into the tourist area. And reach the foot of Co Don Mountain, cross the stairs to reach the cave entrance.

4.3 From Ba Be Lake Area to Hua Ma Cave

From the Ba Be Lake area, you can travel by car, motorbike, or bicycle to explore Hua Ma cave. Next to the ticket office will be the parking place. One thing you should experience is renting a motorbike to move to the cave while walking slowly, admiring the scenery, and relaxing on a peaceful and fresh country road. Visitors just need to go into the tourist area and go to the foot of Co Don Mountain, cross the stairs to reach the entrance of Hua Ma cave.
