Hon Ba Island

A fascinating place to visit at low tide – Con Dao Island has many famous spots such as Shark Cape, Ong Dung Beach, Con Son Bay, Dam Trau beach, ect.  And we must mention Hon Ba Islet which is one of the big three islands within 16 islands and islets on this Con Dao island. It has wonderful seascapes and diversity ecosystem which brings unforgettable experiences.

Hon Ba Islet has a natural area of 576 hecta. It is one of the three big islands in the Con Son Island complex. Hon Ba islet connects with Con Son Islet by Cua Tu which creates Ben Dam Bay. This is a wind-tight and wide bay that serves as a storm shelter for fishing boats at sea.

Why the islet has the name Hon Ba?

The name Hon Ba islet is for the story of Nguyen Anh Lord (then the King Minh Mang of Nguyen Dynasty). Nguyen Anh Lord wanted to ask the support of the French Army and he sent a Prince to this country to be a hostage. At that time Mrs Phi Yen. His wife advised him shouldn’t, and she closed the crime and imprisoned her in a rock cave on the islet. And then this islet named Hon Ba Islet.

What are the specialties on the island?

Hon Ba islet is a place that is interesting for tourists. Because of traveling there, tourists can find and relax on a wild beach. The islet is the area of mango ecosystem with diversity of rare flora and fauna. Travel to here, you should climb to Tinh Yeu (Love) summit with a height of 352 meters, which has the shape as the couple are dating. You can catch the panorama of Ben Dam Bay and surrounding islets from its summit. Also, there is a stream right beside the sea which makes the wonderful picture.

Hon Ba forest resource is very diverse and abundant with a lot of rare and precious trees. Also there are many rare species such as the long-tailed monkey, Con Dao black-squirrel, wild boar, lizards, wild birds, etc.

When you reach Hon Ba Ranger Station, you will walk 20 minutes to the west to reach Dam Quoc beach to discover the mangrove ecosystem, swimming, relaxing on the beach, snorkeling or diving to see coral reefs and sea marines.

Factually, when you travel to Con Dao, you should visit Hon Ba to see the itinerary always open new discovery. So Hon Ba Islet is always the place for you to discover and conquer the challenging nature, record beautiful moments when you visit as well as its history.

Coming to Bay Canh Island, you will have the opportunity to scuba dive and see corals, fish and other marine creatures living on the coral reefs. One feature of Hon Bay Canh is the mangrove ecosystem. Con Dao mangrove is distributed mainly on the ground of dead coral, sand, soft clay. This is also the difference of Con Dao mangrove. When the tide recedes, you can still walk easily in the forest, not muddy like other places.
