1. Where is Do Son Beach?

Do Son is one of the districts of Hai Phong city, famous for the beauty of its green beach and many attractive landscapes. This place is located far from the city center. Hai Phong is about 20 km southeast, and 120 km east of Hanoi capital center.

2. How is Do Son beach unique?

This is a resort with many beaches with beautiful scenery. Each year attracting millions of tourists to visit, swim and climb mountains.

Do Son also attracts tourists because of its fresh air, beaches surrounded by pine hills, mountains, gentle hills, and charming natural scenery. Do Son sea water is not as clear as other beaches because it is located between two estuaries. The moderate salinity prevents the skin from getting sunburned even when swimming at noon.

Coming to Do Son, you can walk along the beach to see the pine hills stretching far away. The rows of casuarina, almond, and coconut trees along the smooth sandy shore. You can freely have fun, swim and enjoy many fresh seafood dishes such as shrimp, crab, fish, squid, jellyfish salad, shrimp salad,…

Traveling to Do Son, you can also participate in special festivals, admiring the sea views and enjoying delicious specialties. Moreover, from Do Son, you can also easily take a speedboat to visit Tuan Chau Island, Cat Ba Island or Ha Long Bay.

Do Son Beach has a typical climate of Northern Vietnam with four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter in a year. Summer temperatures range from 37 – 39 degrees Celsius (the highest is July), the lowest in winter sometimes drops to 8 degrees Celsius (usually in December). You can come here at any time of the year. However, there are two most ideal times: at the beginning of the year and in the summer.

  • Beginning of the year: the weather is now cool and pleasant. If you come to Do Son at this time, you will be able to immerse yourself in vibrant local festivals and better understand Do Son culture. Some special festivals such as the boat racing festival, Minh The festival, Ong Bo pig procession festival…And above all, people from everywhere flock to Do Son to visit Ba De temple in the hope of praying for rain. The wind is favorable and the house is warm.
  • Summer: Lasts from May to September, peak tourism in Do Son is in July. The weather is suitable for swimming, you come to Do Son to immerse in the blue, clear and cool sea water. After a period of hard work, there is nothing like going with family or friends to Do Son beach to relax. You should go to Do Son on weekends for exciting activities. However, this season is also the rainy and stormy season, so you should consider carefully and check the weather forecast before departing.

Therefore, the ideal time to travel to Do Son is from September to April next year.

5. Experiences and Activities in Do Son beach

5.1 Beautiful beaches in Do Son

Traveling to Do Son without swimming is a flawed experience, right? The beach in Do Son Hai Phong has 3 main bathing areas: areas 1, 2 and 3:

  • Area 1: This area has many restaurants and seafood restaurants, but the beach has many rocks and quite big waves. So area 1 is an ideal place for you and your family to enjoy cuisine, and swimming in the sea is quite dangerous.
  • Area 2: This is where people often gather to swim and have fun, so it is always crowded. In zone 2, in addition to safe swimming, you can also participate in water games.
  • Area 3: This beach is quite far from the center of Do Son tourist area so it is still wild and has few services. However, if you love quiet, this is a reasonable choice.

Do Son tourism has many interesting activities at sea that are very popular with many tourists. Especially young people such as: paragliding, jet skiing….These activities are not just opportunities for you to admire the entire beautiful landscape of Do Son tourist area from above but also challenge your “risk” level.

King Bao Dai’s Palace in Hai Phong is a structure with a bold French design style. The mansion here has an area of up to 1000m2 and is located on top of Vung Cao hill in Do Son area 2 with an altitude of 36m above sea level.

King Bao Dai’s Palace is the only mansion of the Nguyen Dynasty in the North of Vietnam, built in 1928. He was given a villa bearing the title of Pierre Pasquier, Governor General of Indochina at that time. This French style was used as a resort after King Bao Dai returned from studying abroad in France in 1932. It can be said that this is one of the few buildings of King Bao Dai’s palace that still remains intact.

Coming to Bao Dai villa, you will be able to wear royal robes, sit on the throne to take photos or sleep in the room where princesses and princes used to sleep. In particular, when you stay here, you can also enjoy Hue royal dishes. Every year Bao Dai villa welcomes about 70,000 visitors.

5.5 Ba De Temple

At the foot of Doc Mountain in Do Son there is a very beautiful ancient temple, the temple of Ba De (Mrs. Trinh Chua). According to legend, in the 18th century, Lord Trinh Doanh went to inspect the battlefield. When he arrived at Do Son, he met a village girl from Chai Dao village named Thi Huong, fell in love with her.

When Lord Trinh returned to the capital Thang Long, because he was busy with work and had not yet had time to get married, the young woman was pregnant. According to village custom, the unfortunate girl had to endure the punishment of having her head shaved, smeared with lime, and drowned in the sea with stones. Because she had to endure the injustice that reached heaven because she had not yet met Lord Trinh, the young girl’s soul manifested in the rivers and seas to help the people escape danger. Therefore, Do Son people built a temple to worship her at the foot of Doc mountain, called Ba De temple.

5.6 Do Son Buffalo Fighting Festival

According to legend and fairy tales, the buffalo fighting festival in Do Son has been a festival to pray for prosperity and happiness for local people since the 18th century. A lot of residents from many places came here to reclaim and live. career opportunity.

The qualifying round is usually held from the 6th lunar month and on the 9th day of the 8th lunar month, the final match takes place.

5.7 Unnumbered dock relics

Unnumbered pier (K15) located at the foot of Nghinh Phong hill in Do Son area 3 is the departure place of unnumbered ships. They carried goods and weapons to support the battlefields of South Vietnam during the years of resistance against the US.

Therefore, this place has been recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a national historical relic. Wharf K15 currently only has time-stained concrete columns left. But it is still a destination worth checking out because of its great historical significance. This is also a very beautiful sunset viewing spot when traveling to Do Son.

5.8 Tuong Long Pagoda

Tuong Long Pagoda is not only a sacred tourist destination but also possesses valuable antiques from the Ly Tran Dynasty. The temple is located in Van Son ward, Do Son with an area of about 2000m2. In particular, here there is also an extremely majestic Tuong Long tower, also known as Do Son tower. When traveling to Do Son, take the time to visit Tuong Long Pagoda for pilgrimage and let go of all your worries.

6. Specialties when traveling to Do Son beach

Traveling to Do Son beach, you will not only be immersed in the vast space and cool sea water. You also have the opportunity to enjoy the specialties of this beautiful sea.

6.1 Hai Phong seafood

Because it is a famous coastal area, when traveling to Do Son, you must definitely enjoy fresh and delicious seafood dishes. In particular, in Do Son Beach area 2, there are many coastal seafood restaurants and eateries for you to choose from. Seafood is caught during the day so freshness is guaranteed. In particular, coming here you will fill your stomach with countless delicious dishes such as shrimp, shrimp, fish, squid,…

6.2 Hai Phong spicy bread

This type of bread is as small as two fingers, with only one type of topping inside, pate. When you eat, you will feel the crispy pieces of bread, the spicy, rich and attractive taste of the sauce. The pate here is fatty and delicious, but it doesn’t taste greasy or dry at all.

6.3 Do Son shrimp rolls

If Banh Cuon in Hanoi is often filled with minced meat from wood ear mushrooms. Then in Hai Phong you will enjoy Banh Cuon with a filling made from super delicious shrimp. The roll is thinly coated and then inside is placed a shrimp seasoned with rich spices. Add a little fried onion on top then dip it with delicious sour fish sauce.

6.4 Hai Phong crab noodle

Considered a delicious and famous dish in Do Son, Hai Phong. Wherever you go on any street, you will come across shops selling crab cakes. This seems to be an indispensable dish. Do Son crab noodles are unique in that they are wet noodles that can only be made and eaten on the same day, not dried noodles, so when eaten, the taste of the cake will be very special: chewy, crispy and rich.

6.5 Hai Phong red jellyfish

I don’t know how long this dish has existed, but nowadays, as long as you are a Hai Phong person, no one knows about red jellyfish. It has even “made waves” in Hanoi in recent years, making the culinary “team” “crazy”. However, red jellyfish are only available seasonally, from April to June every year, so if you miss summer, you won’t be able to enjoy Hai Phong red jellyfish until next year.

6.6 Hai Phong avocado ice cream

Coconut avocado ice cream is also a recommendation for a sweet dish during this culinary exploration trip to Do Son. The avocado is smooth and creamy, mixed with a fresh, fragrant cream flavor, not sweet at all but extremely delicious.

6.7 Hai Phong Banh Duc cake

A small, pretty bowl of Banh Duc has chopped Banh Duc served with deep-fried meat and shrimp, diced papaya, shredded wood ear mushrooms and a chili-vinegar fish sauce. The smooth, firm banh duc is cut into bite-sized pieces and served with fish sauce mixed with just enough sour, spicy, sweet, and salty. When eaten, the fish sauce flavor seeps into the cake, served with some meat, shrimp and papaya, it is truly wonderful.

6.8 Crab hotpot

If you have ever traveled to Do Son, you cannot help but know about the crab hotpot. If you go with family or friends, don’t miss this crab hotpot. The typical flavor of Do Son hot pot and field crab will definitely satisfy and delight you.

6.9 Spicy stir-fried snails in Hai Phong

When talking about snails, you will only think of bowls of boiled pond snails, snails stir-fried with tamarind and coconut. But when you come to Hai Phong snails, you will know what it means to actually eat snails. You will be completely overwhelmed when you come to the snail shops in Do Son Hai Phong. At one time, the snail shop could have up to nearly forty types of snails and seafood. Besides, snails are prepared in many ways. Such as boiled normally, boiled with fish sauce, stir-fried with tamarind, stir-fried with coconut, stir-fried with butter, grilled with onion fat,…

6.10 Crab spring rolls

Coming to Hai Phong, in addition to crab cakes, there is also a dish that has become a specialty whose taste is deeply ingrained in the subconscious of every Port resident here, which is crab spring rolls. The special feature of this dish is that crab meat and crab bricks play the main role. Hai Phong crabs are not as big as many other sea areas, but in return the crab meat is very firm and delicious. Crab spring rolls served with vermicelli and raw vegetables with sweet and sour dipping sauce are absolutely delicious.
