Cao Son Market is a market of ethnic minorities of Mong, Phu La, Dao and Han living in the 4 largest villages of Muong Khuong district.

Every week the market only meets one session on Wednesday. Come to Cao Son Market. You will have the opportunity to exchange, talk and learn more about the life of ethnic minorities.

How to get to Cao Son Market?

To go to Cao Son market, visitors can follow many routes. However, if you want to have the opportunity to take a boat trip on the river and immerse yourself in the poetic and charming natural scenery. Above is the sky, under the water and on both sides of the river are majestic mountains. You can join the tour on the Chay river route: Bao Nhai – Cao Son.

From City Lao Cai, according to National highway 4D. You will come to Phong Nien commune, Bao Thang district, Lao Cai province. Continuing to follow the provincial road 153, visitors will arrive at the boat station of Bao Nhai bridge, Bao Nhai commune, Bac Ha district. From here, upstream of the Chay river to the north is about 31km, visitors will reach Cao Son market.

How Cao Son Market is special?

When entering the fair, right from the early morning, all over the villages. People were seen from the serials to the market. They go in groups, each group, each pair and sometimes one by one. People then carry goods, people use horses to carry goods. Besides that they go to the market by motorbikes, bicycles… A shaggy skirt, mushroom-like squares on the heads of Mong girls, Dao… with flowers exquisite, colorful colors, creating a vivid and charming picture.

Cao Son Market is more beautiful by people, goods and natural landscapes. In the vast space, there are mountains and forests. They are so small… They carelessly buy, sell, exchange goods. Who buy rice, who buy brocades, who buy vegetables, tubers, fruits, who enjoy some highland specialties…

Like some other highland markets. Cao Son Market is divided into several zones: The items bearing bold mountain and forest flavor. Such as: vegetables, herbs, mushrooms, wood ear, honey, corn wine, upland rice, household appliances, jewelry… concentrated into one zone. But the beautifully arranged according to each type of item. In that colorful setting, stand out is the array of brocade items sold in colorful and vivid motifs. These are exquisite products showing skillful ingenuity from the cultivation of flax, composting, weaving, dyeing to embroidering flowers of Mong women, Phu La women and Dao women.

However, the most interesting is the cattle and poultry area. Such as: buffaloes, cows, pigs, chickens, dogs and horses… The atmosphere in this area is very bustling, buyers and sellers, stand, seated scattered and the same deal with each other.

A few hundred meters away is the area for ethnic food. Your tour to Sapa come here, you will be overwhelmed by the charming taste of some specialities. Such as, horse meat and beef… It’s could be great to enjoy some cup wine. Like: Coc Dam and Coc Ngu alcohol… In such a lively and exciting atmosphere, visitors will have to stop, sit down and enjoy the food with the ethnic people.

Coming to Cao Son market, you have the opportunity to enjoy the cultural identity of some ethnic groups living in the village along Chay river. Besides that you also have chance to cruise on Chay river and enjoy the beautiful scenery on both sides of the river.
