Phong Nha Cave belongs to Phong Nha – Ke Bang National park. Located in Son Trach Commune, Bo Trach District, Quang Binh Province. About 45km northwest of Dong Hoi city.
The Phong Nha cave is considered as the Most beautiful cave in the Southern of Vietnam.
How Phong Nha Cave is Special?
According to scientists. The weathering process of the cave in Phong Nha is a natural process that has taken place 250 million years ago. The main form of Phong Nha-Ke Bang is limestone mountains. Average height of 600 meters, narrow walls, standing wall. Phong Nha cave is located in the southeast part of Ke Bang limestone massif. In a strongly calcareous karst area, covering an area of about 10,000 km2, extends 200 km north of the Truong Son range, including to Laos. In this limestone massif, there is underground water. The best time to Discover Phong Nha cave is from Nov to May.
Surface flows can be seen in the rivers. Such as Son, Tram, Chay, Masonry originating from the small streams, to the cave. Especially large streams underground into the limestone mountains to form the cave.
With a length of 7,729m, 83m deep, 50m high with many small branches. Including Bi Bi Cave, Tien Cave and Cung Dinh Cave. This is a type of water movement underground in the mountains with many characteristic stalactites. Legend has it that the stalagmites rushing down the cave has contributed to the name of “Phong Nha”. It’s mean “Wind through the teeth”.
Phong Nha is famous for its unique stone blocks named after the natural shapes. Like “Lion”, “Unicorn”, “bitch”, “royal palace” or “Buddha statue”. After about 19km flow under the Truong Son range. The river appears in the cave entrance with a blue water color in the dry season and red in the rainy season.
