Voi Phuc Temple is located in the area of Thu Le Park, in the territory of Ngoc Khanh Ward, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi. This is one of the “Thang Long Citadel’s Western Guardian God Temple”.
How Voi Phuc temple is unique?
Voi Phuc temple was built in the reign of King Ly Thanh Tong (1054 – 1072). Where worshiping Linh Lang. So besides the name of the temple, the temple also known as Linh Lang Temple. There are many legends about Linh Lang. The spirit of Linh Lang is the prince of Ly – Name Hoang Chan. When the elephant arrived, Ling Lang caught the elephant knelt down. Then the elephant knelt down and brought him and the generals to the battle. In a battle with the enemy on the river bridge, Linh Lang sacrificed.
To commemorate the prince’s work. King Ly Thanh Tong ordained Prince Linh Lang and built the temple and carved two stone elephants lying in front of the temple, later the people. The island is called Voi Phuc Temple.
In addition to the legend of Linh Lang. This place also bold historical mark. May 5/1882 , captain of the royal court under King Ham Nghi – Ton That Thuyet is massing with Black Flag’s Minister Vinh Phuc Luu ambushed French troops here.
