Da Lat Cathedral (official name: Cathedral of St. Nicholas Bari, also known as the Church of the Chicken because of the top of the bell tower is a large chicken) is a catholic church in Vietnam. This is the cathedral church of the Diocese of Da Lat, also the largest church in Da Lat. It’s one of the most ancient and architectural buildings of this city left by the French. The church is located on Tran Phu Street (near the Novotel Hotel) in Da Lat City.
How Da Lat Cathedral is unique?
The Da Lat cathedral is located on Tran Phu Street, which is designed in the style of Roman Catholic churches in Europe, typical of the Roman school. The cross-shaped church (like cross) is 65m long, 14m wide, 47m high bell tower. At that height, from the bell tower, you can see the whole city. The church door leads to Langbiang Mountain.
Stand with towering bell tower. The lines, details on the façade are completely adapted to the original European models. The windows have arched arches, strong lines, decisive, organized in vertical position, roof tile lithography, especially the ratio between blocks. It’s look very harmonious and tight.
The church’s interior consists of 3 compartments: 1 large room in the middle and 2 small rooms on the sides. The section of the building shows the rolling system in the form of arches with curved lines and arches. Columns in the interior are column head, simulate the classic form with spontaneous. Both the surface and the façade are strictly classical symmetrical designs.
