Dau Dang Waterfall

1. Where is Dau Dang Waterfall?

Dau Dang Waterfall is a waterfall formed by the Nang River, belonging to Ba Be National Park, Ba Be district, Bac Kan province. About 34 km from Cho Ra town center, about 86 km northwest of Bac Kan city and about 250 km north of Hanoi capital.

2. How is Dau Dang waterfall unique?

The Nang River flows under Lung Nam limestone mountain, forming Puong cave. When flowing to Hua Tang village of Nam Mau commune, it is blocked by hundreds of large and small rocks. In this location, the terrain has a slope of about 500 m, thanks to which the majestic and impressive Dau Dang waterfall was born today.

The waterfall falls strongly into the Nang River gorge, passing through giant limestone rocks stacked on top of each other. The waterfall is divided into 3 sections, the first section has water pouring down from above with strong force and quite tortuously. In the second part of the waterfall, the water splits into two different streams. In the third part, the water flows smoothly, bringing a dreamy beauty, attracting tourists.

Not only famous for its heavenly scenery, Dau Dang Bac Kan waterfall also has great significance for local agriculture. Every year, the water of this waterfall will transport a large amount of silt from upstream, making the trees and fields greener. Now, along with Ba Be National park, Dau Dang waterfall is an attractive Bac Kan tourist destination that tourists cannot miss.

3. When is the best time to visit Dau Dang waterfall?

Normally, when traveling, tourists will combine visiting Ba Be Lake and Dau Dang waterfall. In winter, the weather here is quite cold, in summer and autumn there will be sudden rains.

4. How to get to Dau Dang waterfall

For tourists in remote provinces such as the Central or Southern regions of Vietnam, traveling by plane is the most optimal choice, it both saves time and helps tourists stay healthy. Explore your next journey. After landing at Noi Bai airport, visitors can travel by road to Dau Dang waterfall.

4.1 From Hanoi to Ba Be Lake

From Hanoi to Dau Dang waterfall in Bac Kan, visitors have many options for transportation, from passenger cars to motorbikes and private cars. If traveling by bus, you just need to go to My Dinh bus station to catch direct buses to Ba Be Lake.

If traveling by personal vehicle, go towards Highway 3 to Thai Nguyen. At the intersection with TL 268 (Km 31), turn left to Dinh Hoa (Chu Market). From now on, You continue along TL 254 to reach Bang Lung (Cho Don), drive about 40 km more to reach Ba Be.

4.2 From Ba Be lake to Dau Dang waterfall

After arriving at Ba Be Lake, visitors can get on the boat to go to Dau Dang waterfall, travel time is only about 45 minutes. When the boat arrives, you follow the concrete paved trail for about 500 meters to reach the most beautiful waterfall.

Currently, boats are the only means of transportation to take visitors from Ba Be Lake to Dau Dang waterfall. The paths leading up to the waterfall are almost all flooded and impassable.

5. Exploring the wild and majestic beauty of Dau Dang waterfall

Dau Dang Waterfall is one of the most famous landscapes in Bac Kan, with a special attraction for tourists. The stream of water falls from above, colliding with rocks, creating a resounding noise that can still be heard clearly from several kilometers away.

When coming closer to the waterfall, visitors will see the majestic beauty of the waterfall and the mountain landscape. Looking up from below, the water splashes white foam, creating sparkling, heart-stoppingly beautiful images.

In particular, every March – April every year, after the first pouring rains of the season, fish swim upstream to look for food and lay eggs. Groups of powerful fried fish raced to overcome the waterfall, no different from the picture of “fish crossing the martial arts gate”.

Bac Kan land in general and Dau Dang waterfall in particular are a paradise of delicious food. Coming here, visitors must definitely try the following local specialties:

7.1 Ba Be grilled fish

Ba Be grilled fish is a favorite dish of many tourists when they have the opportunity to visit this land. The fish are only as small as a finger but have an extremely attractive flavor, are not fishy and can be eaten with their heads and bones.

The fish is prepared quite simply, but the finished product will surprise you. It’s cleaned, the gall and intestines removed, clamped tightly with a bamboo stick and grilled over charcoal for about 15 minutes. When the fish is cooked, it turns an eye-catching golden color and the meat is firm and sweet.

7.2 Smoked pork

Smoked pork is the most mentioned name in the food section in articles sharing experiences about going to Dau Dang waterfall. Unlike other ethnic groups, the Tay people around Ba Be Lake often put pork in baskets or baskets to go to the forest before hanging it on the stove. Day after day, the smoke from the wood stove will cook and turn the meat into a beautiful golden-black color.

9. Some important notes when traveling to Dau Dang waterfall

To make your trip to Dau Dang waterfall safe and complete, visitors need to refer to the following notes:

  • The weather here is quite erratic, visitors should bring umbrellas and raincoats to avoid sudden rains.
  • The road is quite long and has many steep passes. If you are not familiar with the road, it can take about 4-6 hours. Visitors can prepare motion sickness medicine.
  • You should wear lightweight, sweat-absorbent clothes in the summer, plus a thin jacket to wear in the evening and early morning. Warm clothes, gloves, hats, scarves in winter.
  • Because you travel a lot by walking, you need to equip yourself with soft, low-soled shoes for easy movement.
  • Not many ATMs on the way to withdraw money, so you should bring some cash as a backup.
  • There are many mosquitoes around the waterfall area, visitors should bring mosquito repellant.
  • There are very few food or grocery stores in the village. You can bring your own food or ask the villagers to go to the market and cook for you.
  • Bring all your identification documents. If you travel by motorbike, bring your documents and driver’s license. Make sure you are in good health, have a steady steering wheel and wear full protective gear to ensure the safety of your trip.

It’s not beautiful like Ban Gioc waterfall. But take a boat trip on Ba Be lake and trekking to Dau Dang waterfall is a great idea for you to visit while you stay in Ba Be National Park.
