Following the legend, Emperor Le Loi was boating on the lake when a Golden Turtle God surfaced. It wanted to lend him a magic sword, Heaven’s Will. This sword is to fight off the enemies and win the war. After winning the fight, Emperor Le Loi gave the sword back to the Turtle God. And he changed the name of lake from “Luc Thuy” into “Hoan Kiem” Lake to commemorate this event. And this is the reason why there is a Turtle tower. The tower stands on a small island near the center of the lake.
